Sorry I can't really help with your bushing problem :/
What you can do if you don't want a short shifter is buy the cheapest eBay one you find, and just use the bushing with cups. It should fit.

Had this in my 996 and loved it. Now i am in a 997. I believe they are the same, but can anyone confirm fitment for a 997.1?

They fit all 9X6 and 9X7 from 1996 to 2011
I haven’t been very active lately... or at least it’s what it looks like!
I finally register my enterprise, started a website, and I’m just waiting on a few paper to be fully ready
Right now (literally right now!) I’m working on a better shifter assembly lever (the white lever in the assembly). Ball bearings and adjustability for a part that often causes problems!
Oh, and I started the production of a carbon fiber plenum... but you’ll have to wait a bit

The short shifter will be the same, it’s the white plastic lever that I’m redoing.
And it will work with any other shifters

I haven't tested it yet... the car is a bit naked right now...
But I can guarantee that there will be no more wear problem with that ! And it'll be adjustable for side-to-side throw for the shifter 2.0 with the longer lever
Can't wait to have it on and on car and the car on the road !

Will that new bit(?) fit the standard 986 shift console with the B&M shortshifter?
Does it remove the play commonly present in the 986 console?

These are the major wear points that need to be addressed:
The tiny points of contact provided by the sphere wear grooves into the receiver in as little as a few months of use. Until this is addressed, you will always develop play, no matter how many bearings you add to it.

For now I'm spending all my free time working on my car, so testing is not for now :/
I removed everything from the rear except the engine and gearbox.
So much rust on that car I can't believe it !

Hi guys !
I'm done with the rust, and the Boxster just came out of the body shop last week !
I'll be installing the carbon fiber plenum soon (when I'm done with the Porsche Technician certifications) and I'm working on something else
A shifter that will fit the stock space without the need to modify the center console, that is taller than stock while still being short throw, and that will be adjustable and easily and cheaply serviceable!

I tries different solutions already, but wasn’t satisfied... and a prototype failed in the car !
So I decided to re-do the whole shifter mechanism. It will be more expensive... but worth it!

Ben, just got one of your latest batch of original BB shorts shifter from Uniwerksdesign. It replaced my original shifter with broken plastic bushing so it definitely feels very precise but laterally it still has play and I can see and feel small gap between the lever and two red nylon washers. Are you working on upgrades to reduce lateral slop at the lever, as well as the white plastic piece you are working on?

Hi !
I was limited in adjustment for side/to side play, I allow a small play, even though I try to reduce it as much as possible.
If you feel it's too much, you can first try to tighten the nuts a little more, but they should be pretty tight already. Second option is to add shims like the red ones. They are like fiber plumbing seals, and you can use thicker ones if you want.
I just bought a 3D printer and I'll see if I can make this better once and for all.

Can anyone tell me the size of the C Clips from the original ball bearing short shifter. Mine snapped this morning. Thanks!
Disregard found retainer clips at Lowe's
1" E Clip did the trick. Feels new again.

Ben, I appreciate your reply and look forward to your furthe update, plug-in fix!
For now I did slip in an additional shim but still side-to-side play is nowhere as tight as longitudinal play... and I’m still trying to get used to extra force to shift, while appreciating short stroke and precise feel.
