When I did mine I wiped the car surface down with rubbing alcohol and paper towels to remove dirt and oils. And I aligned everything using masking tape to make sure my lines were straight.
Here's a HINT: to help you with centering, raise your rear spoiler manually (using the button on the drivers side kick panel) - when it's up you will see there is a bolt that holds it in place, which is directly centered to the back of your car. Use that as your frame of reference for centering and it will line up perfectly.
yeah, that's what I figured. mine is in good shape, just don't like the color, so I will just take it off and paint it. I'm thinking that outlining it with masking tape before I remove will aid in the alignment when I put it back on.
my boxster is red, I want to paint the "booster" emblem black. I wold like to do the "S" in red, so black boxster, red S. but I'm afraid it would not show up well on my red car.

What are your thoughts on a 986S emblem? I like the 986 a lot. I don't know how I feel about the 986S, but it might just be the way that I've seen it aligned.

How would you center it? Over the 8, with the S off center? or between the 8 and 6?
