The issue with Meir's method is that it only addresses 1 of the flaps. There are 2. To do it completely you have to use both methods or just do it all through the dash.

Once you have the air box on the bench, and wide open, you will get access to all flaps from all directions.
With that said, I went thru all this trouble not to replace the foam on the flaps
The main reasons was to replace a leaking AC evaporator.
