I just did my 04 and the process is the same.
I used infinity speakers and made an adapter plate as I did not want to destroy the factory speakers

They sound so much better than the factory speakers.
I went to a few local stores that have auto speakers on demo and liked them over other speakers. Also, they are more sensitive, so they are louder with lower radio volume settings. That means lower amplifier distortion for a given sound level. From the specs I saw on these and other speakers, they are one of the most efficient 4" speakers available

Infinity REF-4002cfx
Infinity Reference X REF-4002cfx 4" 2-way speakers at Crutchfield.com

I did not get them from Crutchfield, got them on ebay
Therer are also some older models around 4022 and 40??? that a a few $ cheaper. Do a search on ebay and amazon

Send me a PM with your email and Ill send you a pdf template for the adaptor plate I made. I did get the wiring adapters from crutchfield

Here is the link to my post with pictures

+1 on the Infinity reference speakers. I had the opportunity to listen to several competing brands at the Fry's display, kicker was one, and the others sounded like the kicker which were ok, but not really impressive. The infinity speakers opened up the sound big time, there was no comparison.

I did sacrifice the old boxster speakers using a dremel tool to cut the original speaker so I could use it as a mount for the new speaker, a heat gun to bend the speaker connector into place, and then soldered a wire from the original speaker connector to the new speaker. I did a lousy job of photo documentation, but it is straightforward when the parts are all laying on the table.

It looks like the Infinity speaker's tweeter can be adjusted to angle from firing straight at the windshield and towards the listener. Were you able to do this without the grill getting in the way?

TIA

No fit problems with the Infinity speakers
as far as pointing the tweeters to the listener, well the speakers face up and the sound bounces off the windshield so the angling has little effect
