Removing alarm control unit M535

Sorry if this has been covered someplace already...
I just placed my car (2001 Boxster 2.7 with Manual transmission) in to winter sleep.
There is some issues with key fob remotes not communicating with the M535 unit and it has been verified that key fobs do send good signal. Regardless of the previous, Porsche dealer could not pair the M535 with the key fob remotes.
For the above reasons, I'd like to take the M535 unit out from the car and inspect it if there is water damage etc. If needed to, get unit sent to be repaired.
Before the removal, the plan is to disconnect the battery ground, remove the frunk latch lock 'hook' from the frunk lid.
Should I do something else or take something else in to consideration before removing the M535, so I could install it back later on without too much of grief?

Hi, maybe you haven't received any replies because people are familiar with the term ECU but don't recognize M535 in the heading. I wouldn't have either except I just installed a waterproof case on mine and saw M535 on the cover of the ECU. Anyway, these are the instructions for installing the waterproof case. One thing that may be helpful is they say it is important to unplug the black plug from the ECU before unplugging the blue plug. I don't think your car or ECU will care that they are disconnected for a while, people send their water damaged ECU's out to be repaired all the time. But I'm no expert here. If your car is stored in an indoor secure area, I would recommend putting the top down before taking the seat out of the car, as you'll have an easier time. Another pointer I can give yo is to put a large towel or blanket over the door sill because the seat tracks have sharp edges and will scratch the paint and plastic, and the seat is heavy and hard to maneuver. Finally, don't reconnect the battery until the ECU and seat are both fully installed.

This what I was going to suggest. I used the waterproof case installation instructions without any issues afterwards.

Thank you for this advice. Yes, it is important to protect the surroundigs when removing the seat. Last winter when I did clean the seats leatehr, I did wrap the seat rail ends with plenty of twel and tape - no scrathes to the car
I'll follow the link for the instructions and get the ACU sorted out. The water proof case is a good option as well.

OK.

As mentioned on the 1st post, I have some connection issues between the key fobs and alarm control unit (ACU). Key fobs do send the signal as inspectedby 'Keyfobrepair'. Regardless of this, Porche dealer could not get the connection to work between the key fobs and the car.

I got the ACU out today and Looks like the ACU is fine - does not have any sign of moisture in it. Also the pins on the connectors and plastic box is super clean inside out.

Both, the ACU and fobs were replaced on 2015 by previous owner due to water damage in old unit. So, the current unit looks real good maybe for a good reason.

It is just amazing that the keys do not communicate with the ACU - not even with the attempt by Porsche dealer...
Could there be any other fault possibilities to check before ordering a new fob from Porsche dealer?

Thanks PaulE. Do you knwo how I could change the headign to to read for example 'Removing the Alarm Control unit'? I tried, but could only change the sub-header

I think if you go to your original post, click "Edit" and then when the original post comes up for editing, you can click "Go Advanced." Then you will see the "Title Box" above the post and you can change what it says. Did you try that?

Yes, I did try, but this does not allow to change the actual header, but add another the 'sub-header' below it. Thanks anyhow for your help
