The marketers and the car companies love people like you! LOL

Look at their commercials. They're selling you emotions, not cars. They're betting on us to buy with feelings, not with our minds. And it works.

Not saying there's anything wrong with that, I'm just pointing out the obvious.

Not always, but I try to be more practical with my car purchases. They're mostly like a wrench to me. Do the job right, do it economically and with the least amount of fuss. I'll pay more for a good wrench, but it better do the job better than the cheap wrenches.

I've had fancy cars and I've had cars that had one wheel in the grave. Two of my favorite cars are a Ford Escort 5-speed that I paid $175 for and a Dodge Raider I paid $400 for. Maybe it's because I could do anything with them and didn't care if they got dented, scratched, or whatever! I got the most bang for the buck with those.

Why did I get a Porsche? Mainly because my wife always wanted one and I got it as a gift. Do I love the car? Hell yeah! Then again I got a fantastic deal on it. So far I'm getting a pretty good bang for the buck with it as well! Plus it's a fun as hell car to drive, I can't deny that! So was my Raider.

I've made some emotional car purchases, and I still have a one. It's my fire truck. But my daily driver and my work van are purely practical cars: My Subaru Outback and my Dodge Grand Caravan. Reliable, good gas mileage, low cost of purchase/ownership. When they stop serving me well, I'll sell them and get something else. For me, cheap, worry-free driving is happy driving. So in that sense, I guess I make emotional purchases as well.


Really, it doesn't matter what our reasoning, or lack thereof, as long as we're happy we can't go wrong.
