Thoughts on the 2009 Boxster?
Hi, all.
I'm considering purchasing a 2009 Boxster. Any thoughts or experiences with it? |
A pretty awesome car with no serious inherent flaws. The beginning of the most reliable cars built by Porsche. Buy it!

I just sold one in So Cal on Friday. Is it meteor gray by any chance? But to your point, it was an amazing car. The PDK is as good as I imagined.

Don't quote me, I believe I read somewhere that there were +/- 650 2009 Boxsters sold in the USA. Due to the start of the recession. Mine was an S. What a car.

Thanks for the replies so far! I have to say, I'm really falling in love with this car, but I'm new to Porsches and have heard mixed things. A lot of people say that, beyond the actual price, I'll have to have quite a bit of disposable income to pay for maintenance and repairs. I'm willing to do so, within reason, but I'm debating between the 2009 Boxster and a 2016 Mazda Miata.

Both nice cars except, well, one’s a Porsche!
If your Boxster checks out, it will retain its value over the years and I’m sure you will appreciate the performance difference. |

....do you drive?
If you live on a mountain road and want to just have a blast driving 10/10THS with the tail hanging out and don't drive long distances cross-country, get the Miata. If you drive on roads with faster sweeping turns and more long distance, get the Boxster. Can't lose either way. Oh, and if you DO travel, remember the Boxster has two trunks. You can pack more than a toothbrush. :cheers: |
Buy the one that makes you want to get in it and drive.

If it is a 2009 base Boxster, there is no IMS and no direct fuel injection. The best of all worlds for long term ownership!

I would mostly be using the Boxster for everyday purposes, maybe for a weekend trip here and there. I live in Palo Alto, which is a relatively quiet and safe area in Northern California. No extreme weather to contend with here, though it does rain a lot. |

So was my Raider. :cool: I've made some emotional car purchases, and I still have a one. It's my fire truck. But my daily driver and my work van are purely practical cars: My Subaru Outback and my Dodge Grand Caravan. Reliable, good gas mileage, low cost of purchase/ownership. When they stop serving me well, I'll sell them and get something else. For me, cheap, worry-free driving is happy driving. So in that sense, I guess I make emotional purchases as well. Really, it doesn't matter what our reasoning, or lack thereof, as long as we're happy we can't go wrong. :cheers: |

Porsche made a huge leap in quality from the 986 to the 987. They addressed many of the mechanical issues with the 987.2 vs the 987.1. You will enjoy an exciting vehicle if you buy an 09 Boxster. I spent $5,058 on maintenance on our 09 S in the 27 months we owned it. The climate control module gave up and that was a $1,000 after programming. Then the hi/low A/C pressure switch wouldn't and that was $714. I had to replace both seat covers. The ventilated seat covers are not very durable. I did the labor, but the covers were $750 a piece. It really eats rear tires. Pick your price. The rest was normal oil/filter stuff. In the near future it was going to need front rotors and pads. The PDK, at 10 years, really should have its fluid X/O. It was also coming due for a coolant change. We put 8100 miles on it in that time. 25K to 33K. Great car, just not the right car for my wife. I'm keeping the 97 for me. We plan to replace it with a Macan for her. FYI, we paid $27K for it and I sold it for $24K to a high end used car dealer. They contacted me via Craigslist. Their's was the only solid cash offer I received. Lots of inquires/posers/wastes of time from others. It Blue Booked at +/-$25.5K. |
