Thanks for the replies so far! I have to say, I'm really falling in love with this car, but I'm new to Porsches and have heard mixed things. A lot of people say that, beyond the actual price, I'll have to have quite a bit of disposable income to pay for maintenance and repairs. I'm willing to do so, within reason, but I'm debating between the 2009 Boxster and a 2016 Mazda Miata.

@rexcramer, ah, no, I'm in Northern California and this one is red!

This is accurate. The good news is that a 2009 is not only newer but will likely have a lot fewer miles than the average 986 so some of the most common repairs will still be a fews years in the future. But remember that there are no cheap Porsche's. You can pay now or pay later, but you will pay.

A good plan is to budget $2,000 per year for repairs and maintenance. Some years will be less, some might be more, but over the long run (especially as the car gets older and the miles accumulate) this is as good of a budget as any.

No comparison in terms of ongoing upkeep - the Miata will be MUCH cheaper. But it's nothing close to a Porsche.

I gotta be honest. The Miata will be 1/2 the cost to own but it is 1/2 the car. Pick your poison.
