Coolant Bleeder Valve question...after water pump r&r

Hello fellow enthusiasts!
So, I replaced the water pump, topped off coolant, and used bleeder valve.
All good, temp good, however I noticed after a drive when I went to check to make sure
the bleeder valve closed that it was in the bleed position and won't reset or go back to the down position. It looks like this....
Is this normal, or is the valve defective? Any insights appreciated Thanks!

I noticed that as the engine reached 180 the bleeder valve seemed to have almost no resistance to being pulled up.....so it is really a bypass valve....after I got all the air out of mine I have not lost a drop of coolant.

Thanks for the reply. The valve is back down now that the engine has cooled.

FYI You see that white powdery residue on the seam at 10 o'clock and down on bottom at 11? That is an indication of coolant leaking. Since you did that good work now would be a good time to replace the O-rings on that valve. Do a search for info.

I replaced my water pump this weekend. I read the Bentley instructions which made no mention of using a sealant on the gasket. When I pulled off the old one, a light coating of sealant had been used.

Sealant on no sealant?

When I did my WP, I used no sealant, just relied on the metal crimp of the OEM style gasket, I think I may have gotten a Porsche branded gasket since it was about the same price as the non Porsche branded
