Jake called me today... It's not a broken chain. Now he thinks it's an IMS bearing failure. It has him somewhat excited because it looks like a failure type he has not seen before. My 997 has the large IMS bearing and he has seen only two of these fail, and that was about ten years ago. Something caused the chain going to bank one to jump and crack the cam cover. Also all of bank one no longer fired (suspect chain jumped a tooth). There are metal fragments and shavings in the sump, filter, and stuck to the magnetic drain plug. I just signed authorization for them to remove the motor and inspect. He said he will be inspecting and studying that IMS bearing very closely.

The Jӓger4Smobile will go down in history as the 997 that lead the way large IMS bearing failures!
