Hi Timco,
to be honest i've never seen this model without the painted GT silver seat backs over here in Germany / Europe. Maybe it was a ROW option. I don't know. Also checked the official Porsche press release and it says the seat back covers are in GT silver. Don't have a brochure for the car.
@GTsilber:
If you don't have i would recommend you to get an official Porsche workshop manual or another good workshop manual for the car as a base documentation. Wiring diagrams will be helpful if you have bigger trouble with electronic components. The forum will help, but there is a point when it's really difficult to solve complex problems via remote diagnosis. Just my 2 cents.
Regards, Markus

Looking at the wiring diagram for a 2004, and based on your symptoms (dash switch and cluster light not illuminating), I'm leaning toward the relay.
My reasoning is that if it were a microswitch or top motor issue, the dash switch and cluster indicator should still light up. The only thing I see that they all have in common (operation lockout, lights) is the relay.
Difficult to tell, though. I'd ask Woody if he has one you can try. If it didn't fix the issue, I'm sure he'd refund you or you could sell it.

I just took another look at the fuse diagram and at my fuse box. I noticed that fuse D3 was missing in my box - I believe this is the fuse that talks to the top relay...I plugged in a brand new 30A and thought for sure it would work...nope . Is it possible that the dash rocker switch needs to be replaced, my central door lock button is not functioning either, and I also replaced that fuse. Central door lock led is illuminated though.

Painted seat backs....
...were, indeed, optional in the USA.
My car does NOT have them.

Is it possible that my top dash rocker switch is kaput?

Possible, but not likely. Easy to determine with a DVM.

So my turn signal indicators stopped working last night but the hazards were working correctly with indicators blinking in dash...I got my Bentley manual today and saw that the indicator light and top are both tied to fuse B6, a fuse I've already replaced and tested 3x!
Low and behold, the top now works after replacing B6 again
With the top down I noticed this cable and screw hanging loosely on the passenger side, what is this and should it be connected to something?

Pretty sure that's your top tension cable. With the top in the service position you can look on the other side and you should find the twin to that one.

Thanks I saw the driver side is mounted, is there a nut or something I'm missing here? How do secure that screw to the top, I don't see a mounting hole just feels like there's a rivet.

That's good to hear you got it working. I was going to say if the car had water damage done to the seat maybe your immobilzer under the front seat got wet.

Did you read the article? It has pics and description of how the top end is attached. I'm assuming it is the upper connection we are looking at?

Reread it, I had difficulty removing the screw from the ball joint. But I got it, removed screw, tightened, then reattached socket to screw ball...thank you!

Look for the hack where you ground pin 15 (I think). that bypasses the parking brake.

Here is a list of maintenance items that I plan on completing in the next couple of weeks:
1. Clean Throttle Body (complete)
2. Replace spark plugs (went with OEM Beru)
3. Oil Change (going with Pentosin 5w40, Hengst filter, new LN magnetic drain plug)
4. Inspect existing oil filter for metal/plastic
5. Replace driver side door check hinge
6. Replace fuel line vent valve (ordered OEM off a 2002 911)
7. Replace AOS (OEM part purchased)
8. Check brake wear sensors - (dash light is illuminated but pads look good)
9. Possibly replace B1S2 o2 sensor
Anything else I should be looking at, other than IMS?

About to purchase 2004 50th anniversary
Draining oil now, took off filter and inspected. I did see some really small splinters of metal and what appeared to tiny plastic dots (2-3) pieces...is this normal?
Also noticed a small oil leak right in front of oil pan and adjacent to filter, behind tranny, not sure where leak is coming from, rear main seal?
