The only thing I'm seeing on the GTI forums is the need to de-carbon the heads/valves on these 2010-14 DFI engines after higher miles. Any experience?
You're welcome. I was aware of the issue but I don't have any experience cleaning out the carbon.

If your going to tune the car and you have a manual transmission figure on the need for a clutch as the stock one can't handle more then stock power. The DSG transmission can handle a lot more then stock.
