The 986, even in auto, will take first. It starts in second, but if you quickly let off the brake and stab the throttle, the car will downshift to first before sending you off the line. Glad you mentioned this Jake. I think that one should check the torque on those cv bolts periodically. During my winter maintenance I noticed some grease splattering around one of the cv joints. I found that the 6 bolts had backed off so much that I could turn them by hand! Catastrophe avoided!!
