Strange
That is the oddest steering wheel I have seen. One of my good friends had one of these, he got it when he was 16 in high school....to say it is in terrible condition now is an understatement

Yes, it looks like the designers did their best to avoid curves:


I expect that the driver's did best to avoid curves as well.
