I've heard these sort of ads called "ego listings". Their good for the sellers ego, but don't reflect reality.

That's a heck of a special ordered Box S. Is the 080 suspension 50 better than the M030?
Hey BoxMann, what are you doing looking at HI CL? I know I scan all 4 corners of the US but I'm centrally located. You couldn't be further from HI unless you were in Boston. :) |

And no, I don't scan the HI CL listings. But I do use DailyLister which scans CL nationally, and I stumbled upon this one. I'm looking eastern half of the U.S., the closer to my area, the better. And I couldn't be from Boston, I'm a Yankee fan. |

Found this in Jacksonville, FL:
Brand new wind deflector center section for a 2000 - 2004 Porsche Boxster S with black cloth case. This wind deflector has the locking clips on it, it came off of the 2004 boxster S I owned at one time $150.00 FIRM Porsche and others sell them for $225.00 and more https://jacksonville.craigslist.org/pts/d/jacksonville-porsche-boxster-wind/6810128881.html |

In the blink of an eye they suddenly become valuable.
https://miami.craigslist.org/mdc/cto/d/miami-beach-2008-blue-porsche-boxster-6/6808575364.html Wonder what that makes my LE worth? $120? Would be one thing if he made a typo in the title, but to make it twice is a pattern. |
LOL - nothing suspicious at all about that ad:

My favorite reason for selling? "I'm selling because it was purchased without proper consent of a loving wife. Apparently, do whatever the f*** you want doesn't mean what I thought!"
|
Burg - I too chuckled about the "All Cash Full Payment".
First of all, you could never get that kind of scratch out of a bank. Even IF you could, you'd have at least 20 Feds talking into their sleeves and following you in black Suburbans. When I first saw the headline, I figured he'd accidentally added an extra 0. It happens. But when you type it a 2nd time and even insert the comma in the number, it wasn't a mistake. My dad liked to say you can always come down on your price, but you can't go up. This one is taking that advice to the extreme. |

A 2011 Boxster for $13,900. Wow, what a bargain. I'm sure it's an "Excellent car, great condition". That's why he's asking 50% of what it should be selling for. And it's got power windows too !!

I get emails with the same verbiage as pic #2 all the time. They'll ask if you still have the car available after just listing it an hr earlier, then jump into the problems with CL processing emails and ask you to contact them directly. The generic 'the car' question is a dead giveaway, along with the hokie story about receiving emails. When I list my cars on multiple CLs, these emails all show up w/in minutes of each other. Can't imagine the nastiness that would rain down on your email addr if you fall for it. At least they lifted the proper VIN. When I was in CL timeout for advertising on too many cities, the CL admins admonished me for not listing the VIN. I said it was too easy for someone to steal my pics and info and I didn't want to make their ad appear more legit by providing the VIN too. They acted like I was insane. I will always provide the VIN to a real person, but only after I've verified they're real. Had someone ask for the VIN as they're 1st and only question. I said I'd give it if they called me directly. They refused. Sorry, no deal. I wonder how many ppl actually contact them thinking they've run across the deal of the century? Greed blinds the senses. |
Found myself a hard top in good shape. Only issue is it’s not black, but dark gray. Price was right though. They asked 1000cad for it and got it for 850cad which is about 635usd. Now I need to get the spin locks for it

For as many scams and horror stories out there about Craigslist, it's great to see there are also good ones! Another good one happened to me last October. I sold my 2012 Acura TL with 128,000 miles within an hour of posting the ad to the first person that called me. I might have been able to get a little more for it if I held out, but I wanted it gone that day so I could use the license plates on an incoming new car. They showed up with cash and took the car that night. I have sold 5 cars on Craigslist over the past 10 years or so and all have been great experiences. I love reading about the great finds and scams that everyone posts in this thread! |

A nicely optioned car. I normally take a laissez faire approach to color choices under the “it’s your car” philosophy, but I do wonder what the previous owner was thinking. |
Here are a couple of 986 "Caymans" for anyone looking:

They look like a solid option for those that want the best of both worlds, sad thing is you won’t find very many in canada and you’ll pay a premium usually if you do. |
