I changed mine for the heck of it at 55k miles, the original was just fine. Clearly from what I'm reading from others they STILL have quality control problems with these pumps. I don't get it, you would think they would find a better manufacturer.

10 years and coming up to 39k kms, still on the original water pump. I have a replacement sitting in the cupboard and I'll fit it eventually.

How many water pumps has your 986 been through?

99' with a total of 48k on her, had to replace the water pump at 42, 000 miles due to catastrophic failure. Shut the engine off and limped into a parking lot. Had her towed to the dealer and $1100 bucks later she was good as new.

1999 Base. The engine was replaced in 2003, and has 53,000 plus miles on it. Still has the original water pump, but replacement is on my to do list.

I have a 2003 2.7L with 21,000 miles. I replaced the coolant tank a couple of years ago but the water pump is original. I bought my Box as a CPO and the coolant tank was replaced for free under extended warranty. Luckily for me, that's the only part I've had to replace outside of regular maintenance........Now the jinx starts, right!

'02 boxster S with 56k bought it in july of last year. Had it inspected by my local dealership, they gave it their blessing but recommended the water pump be replaced. I replaced it myself 3 weeks ago and installed a low temp thermostat.

The water pump in the car was not the original pump and appeared to be in good shape. The impeller was perfect and there was no lateral or radial play in the bearing. I'm glad I didnt give them the $1200 they wanted for the service.

So thats 3 pumps in 57k
