Put new rims on the Boxster today. These replaced the 17" turbo twists and Michelin AS3 tires I was running. New rims are SSR GT3s that came off a 911, 19x10 rears and 19x8.5 fronts. Included with the rims were a set of mounted Michelin Sports with about 60% life remaining (manufacture date of 2007). Paid $650 for the set, got them off craigslist here in the Portland area. They did not come with any center caps. I tried the new silver OEM Porsche caps I had in the turbo twists but the color difference was really obvious in contrast to the "Searchlight Grey" finish of the SSRs. I also considered the SSR caps for $45 a pop but I found grey Chinese knock-off Porsche caps for $17 a set on fleabay. Pretty pleased with how close the caps match the rim finish, theyre so cheap Ill get another set and keep them for future use. Also pictured is the 15mm spacers for the rear tires ($110 for the set) and the chrome lug bolts I got at Americas Tire, $60 for the set. I didnt need spacers on the front tires. New tire size is 235 35 19 fronts and 275 30 19 rears, included a shot of the rear tires to give you an idea of the increase in rear tire meat, gotta love it

Next project will be caliper restoration, still struggling to figure out what color I want them to be...

Local PCA chapter mystery tour. 4 hour back road drive with 30 couples and various P-Cars old and new.

We didn't know where we were going until after the lunch/wine tasting stop

We ended up in Palm Desert at a fabulous resort. Off to dinner in a few hours with the group

Ventured out with my fellow drive leaders and the Tourmeister for the pre-drive of a brand new Sunday Drive route of the local PCA region.

Just under 90 miles of twisties; ambient temp was around 40°. Most of the group was sporting summer tires, so there were a few sideways moments along the route for those without electronic aids. (Me and the ‘89 Turbo Widowmaker)

About 20 miles from the finish, the Tourmeister spotted a craft beer brewery, so he obligingly made an unplanned stop into their parking lot.

After a quick tour and a pint of ale (EXCELLENT), we ended the drive in historic downtown Grapevine, where we feasted on some Terlingua quality chili…………the REAL Texas Red; no beans or tomato sauce.

We drove home………..I immediately headed for the antacid bottle. I also noticed there were no dead bugs on my windshield. Summer’s gone……..top stays up for awhile now.

We're running the Rolex course. I managed a 2:27.3 and topped out at 130mph.

I'm afraid the Boxster won't be out today; it was 39*F when I got up this morning, and the high will be ~50*. Warm weather returns mid-week!

Packed it away yesterday

It's been a cold October and I hadn't gotten as much time with it as I wanted. My battery ended up dying. I used jumper cables with the positive terminal in the fuse box and the door latch to get enough power to open the frunk, then rolled it into place and jumped it from the battery.

The battery was a few years old and giving signs that it was ready, so I cruised over to autozone for a new one. Then I finished my winterizing routine and turned it in ot my winter home. They packed her away in between a Lotus and an Aston Martin. Good company for the winter

Wife and I had a kid-free weekend down in Fredericksburg. 16 down from DFW, then a quick 16-337-187-39 blast on Sunday. I can see why Boxstoberfest is here - awesome roads.

FM 337 is one of the three infamous "Twisted Sisters" of the Texas Hill Country, along with FM 335 and FM 336. The organizers of Boxstoberfest always include one of them in their Saturday drive.

The "Sisters" are revered by motorcyclists, and you can hustle a Boxster plenty quick through the sweepers, esses, and even hairpins of this undulating 100 mile loop.

Missed you by one week. And I didn't get to go on the banking, mine was touring laps only.

What all oiling mods have you done to your car? I have the EBS baffle installed but I am still not sure if I would do an HPDE at Daytona although I think it would be a lot of fun. It would probably be fine, I am running Hankook RS3 and not true slicks or R compounds.

I've done the EBS baffle install as well. I'm on Direzza ZIIs, a similar tire to the RS3, and I have had no issues. Everything I have read suggests baffling upgrades aren't necessary unless you are running race compound tires, and ours are still pretty far from that. Still, better safe than sorry, and I'd say the EBS upgrade puts you far in the safe category.

Changed the oil/filter.
Cut the filter open and yet again, I found oil and nothing else. :dance:

$50 for the oil and $13 for the filter and washer. Saved around $100 doing it myself!

On Friday I picked up my 986 from the 90k service, and I took a top down spin to the beach. This morning I conditioned all of the my rubber/seals with Gummi Fledge and plan to do a detail this afternoon!
