It also amazes me how much crap gets between the a/c heat exchanger and the radiator!

Track prep day very productive.
  • Drained the oil, remove the sump.
  • Drained some water, to allow the oil cooler to be replaced.
  • Replaced the oil cooler.
  • Replaced filter.
  • Replaced all the brakes and rotors.
  • Drained the brake fluid and filled and bleed the brakes.
  • Refilled all the fluids

What did you do with/to your Boxster today?

Cleaned out radiators and installed new horns. Note the Plastic-Dip overspray from a previous dumba$$ owner.

Maybe you have plans to cover the vents with mesh or not but just FYI. A low cost approach I did was buy some of that plastic rain gutter mesh (Black) cut to size and zip tie them to the bumper. Can be done in half hour without taking bumper off. Unless you're up close and personal they suffice.

Not a great day.

Plan was to install new front disks and replace the right front caliper because one of the bleed valves had sheared off.

Disks went fine, but when I had removed the caliper with the sheared off valve I discovered that the replacement didn't fit. Too small, for a base, and not for an S.

I then proceeded to see of I could fix the shared off bleed valve with a bolt removal set. No go, it was in so hard that the handle of the kit threatened to break. So down to my indie to see if he could help. To make a long story short, I need a replacement caliper and I need it installed no later than Thursday, because Friday to Sunday I am doing a DE!

No calipers to be found anywhere except eBay, and that's where I got the one that was wrong, so I asked my indie to see if he could locate one. He called later and told me that Porsche has three in the country and those are the only ones he could find, so we are having it overnighted to him and he will install it because I am out of time. Going to cost a pretty penny.

Anyway, no spousal grief, she understands, so we will deal with it.

I experimented with various mounting positions for my GoPro Hero 5 at last weekend's AX. Helmet mounted is definitely the way to go. Fun to see where I am looking and it gives a much better picture of the motion than the dash mount. The wind break mount was too far back, even though it is fun to be able to see the driver. Also, the helmet mount does show the tach and speedometer, which is cool.

Why the heck didn't he just drill it out and tap for a larger bleeder?

Anker, are these calipers made from aluminum or steel? If steel, you could put some heat on it and then the easy out will get the broken bleeder out. But the caliper will have to be repainted at a minimum, and maybe rebuilt too. We used to do that on MG's, Triumphs, Austin-Healeys, etc which had steel calipers, couldn't do it on Fiat 124s which had aluminum calipers.

Apparently the caliper is made of aluminum. I will see if I can get it repaired by a caliper specialist once I have the time. For now my prime concern is to get the car on the road ASAP.

Thanks/Anker

Check out Youtube there are several video's on how to remove broken bleeder valves. They may help.

Put a washer over the valve to protect the caliper, then a nut and fill with weld to attach to the broken nipple and it will unscrew. If the thread is damaged, here in the UK you can get an oversize replacement valve and thread tap off the bay.

The US spec lighter actually holds my phone charger and radar detector plugs without them falling out.
