I'm kinda guessing that you don't have traction control or you'd simply hit the button as suggested by John V. Bottom line is the 99 just doesn't do "burnouts". Which, for most is fine since it's a sports car - not a muscle car.....

I didnt know 99's had PSM. Are you trying to donut or burn out? Cause you cant burn out unless you drive through a puddle. But we can do donuts, and they are a lot of fun.

Are you sure? PSM- Porsche Stability Management. Other car manufactures call it Traction Control.

i love my traction control. i'd be dead if i didnt keep it on. so many times i've lost control and the traction control brings the car back into a straight line.

i've been driving my boxster in the snow for the first time this winter and i love the traction control.

not sure why you would want to try burn outs or dounts...go get an american car, and ruin the crap out of that. or a japanese honda, might be good.

PSM was not offered on the Boxster until 2001. Before then, it was called Traction Control. From what I've been told, they are similar.

I have traction control on my 2000S, and I just have to hit the button to turn it off.

I don't think my car has a button to turn off traction control...
I just don't like when I do a launch, the car skipping across the pavement as TC kicks in...

Can you drift boxsters? I got it sidewas but TC kicked in and wouldn't send any power to the rear.

Does the TC light on the Dash turn on when the traction control kicks in? It should blink yellow when TC is working. Otherwise you do not have traction control.

PSM = TC + ABS + ABD (Automatic Brake Differential)

krn986, most likely if you don't have a TC button, you don't have traction control. TC was an option anyway. You could check the hood option codes, but if you don't have the button, then I doubt it's even worth checking.

TC is not the same as PSM. PSM is a yaw-control superset which first was an option in 2001. The "car skipping across the pavement" is standard wheel hop. These cars don't like to be launched. I'm not a drifter, but I would say drifting a Boxster would be difficult because of the rear weight bias and low polar moment of inertia. The car wants to turn/spin. It does not want to hang its tail out (at least under power).

On a related subject, are there any Porsche brake gods out there? I'm actually considering adding TC/ABD. I have a start on the basic hardware differences, but who knows about the electrical/software differences? Yes, I know it would not be cheap.

Not true. PSM adds yaw control. TC with ABD is option P37 or M222/224. All Boxsters have ABS.
