Sorry to hear of the trouble. I'm curious what model year the car is. There seems to be a trend with 2000 model cars having cracked heads. Two that I've owned (2.7 and 3.2) and many that I've read about here and other places. I don't hear of it in other years. Just curious about yours as another data point.
Also, I'd consider JFP's words and review what your expenses and expectations are with the shop. Paying to have them replace the head gasket will very likely not fix the engine and could lead to a long line of additional charges if you follow that path.
