987 airbox doesn't fit!!!

I cannot believe what I'm seing but there it is..

I managed to squeeze in the 987 box, I struggle to get the bolts in to fasten the box. Then I realize that there is no way, as you can see in the picture the end of the tube hits the "roof" of the engine bay but the bolt hole is still far to low.

What is going on here, would really love your thoughts, I don't get it.. The airbox is from a 987.1, the car is a 986s 2003.

It's supposed to work, right?
