987 airbox doesn't fit!!!

I cannot believe what I'm seing but there it is..

I managed to squeeze in the 987 box, I struggle to get the bolts in to fasten the box. Then I realize that there is no way, as you can see in the picture the end of the tube hits the "roof" of the engine bay but the bolt hole is still far to low.

What is going on here, would really love your thoughts, I don't get it.. The airbox is from a 987.1, the car is a 986s 2003.http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1615150226.jpg

It's supposed to work, right?

Maybe I'm just too tired and tilted the box in the wrong angle (the pipe too high) Will be back on it tomorrow!

It will fit if you cut off all the excess plastic, I think I installed mine from the bottom.

I understand that the engine needs to drop a couple inches in order to install that box,How did the old box come out ?

Newsguy 03-07-2021 07:07 PM

I did it with the engine out, and it still wasn't fun. Can't imagine what a challenge it would be coping with the engine and assorted components!

Thanks for your thoughts guys..

After a nights sleep I went to it again, itīs getting closer..
The box is in, it just wont line up with the bolts without the pipe to the MAF hitting the wall.
What I did to get it in was the classic steps, removed intake and fuelrail, since I also will be swithcing out the front engine mount I removed this and lowered the engine enough for the box to slip in.
Since yesterday I have taken the box out again and trimmed away all the insulation behind the box, this made a big improvement. Now I managed to get in the front bolt, but the other two still feels really tricky.
And the MAF, will it really fit without cutting some of the plastic.. Something doesnīt feel right.

This is what they should force prisoners to do instead of jailtime, putting in airboxes.. Guess it would be too cruel..

Thanks, I think I have done the proper cutting, cannot take a picture right now since it is in the car at the moment.. Try to illustrate with your pic:

Brad Similar to QuadCammer. I banged up the Bubble in the body at the connection point of that flange and made room

Does the 987 airbox buy you space between the airbox and plenum? I've always wanted to do this... but just because i hate sticking my fingers in and around the intake plenums. The power would be a nice bonus.

I imagine that you have seen my video series about this on my YouTube channel?

So.. Found a hose clamp that was hindering the box to settle properly, so now.. Finally the box is bolted in.. This was worse than expected.
