Originally, I was looking for a 3.2 replacement. Almost all of the available engines of this format are 5 chain (pre 2003) engines. The 3.2 three chain motor appeared in the Boxster in 2003 with the 7.8 DME. It was succeeded by the 3.4 in the Cayman and then in the Boxster.
On the other hand, the same 3 chain motor appeared in 2002 in the Carrera, also using the 7.8 DME. This engine was bored out to 3.6 with better breathing and tuning. This is why I bought the 3.6 which you see in these pictures. Supposedly the core was intact and was therefore a candidate for a rebuild with “Nickies” and all. Ah well, a lesson learned. :ah:
