I'm interested in an outer view, too, AKL. I wasn't actually thinking of doing this quite like that, but it's got me thinking about this differently now and figuring out what my options are prior to re-install. I was thinking of putting the mesh in the space in front of the intake hole rather than on the vanes. My scoop obviously isn't a single piece like yours is, but maybe I can do something similar. My mesh is more diamon-shaped and maybe the size of two of each of the holes you showed there, but I imagine it will work just as well since anything would be better than nothing, and it's not so fine that it'll restrict airflow.

That said, I still think installing a screen is a really good idea , probably looks good too. Got a pic of the view from the outside?
No I don't have an outside pic but I can assure you it is almost invisible. You have to kneel down with a flashlight to really see the mesh. Does not interfere with the looks of the car. I changed my '02 vent cover for the '03 version as I like it better. Just covering the opening where the snorkel used to be would work just as well I imagine.

I have a friend who can do fabricating and I am running an idea by him for at scoop behind the vent that would give a bit of ram affect but not sure it would give enough to be worth the effort. Kinda like those rectangle to round brake ducts seen on 911's. Will keep you posted if it works.
