Transmission Oil

Changing oil in Transmission on my 2000 boxster S. Any recommendation on what oil to use? Any tips?

Search is your friend, but many recommend to only use Porsche approved gear oil.

Was ready to do mine this last weekend until I found out it took a VERY special 16mm triple point security driver to get the drain plug out... had to order that from eBay so now will wait until this weekend to do.

Yep, you will need a tamper resistant triple square (12-point) to remove the drain plug and a 17mm Allen socket (for 5-speed) or a 10mm Allen socket (for 6-speed) to remove the inlet plug on the side of the trans-axle. I recommend using the Porsche oil, I have also used Royal Purple but the Porsche oil is much better.

After trying several different brands of gear oil in my 04 S , I found the Porsche gear oil works the best.

I have heard of other forum members having success with swepco 201. I shall be putting that in when I drain the transmission, but I don't think you could go wrong with OEM Porsche oil.

when I used Swepco for a DE weekend I had trouble shifting when it got hot. Just did not want to go in gear after a while. Switched right back to OEM and all that went away.
