Yes. That tool works very well. Clean the tube thoughly then wrap the plug with sandpaper. The secret is not to tighten the plug too much. Tighten it a bit and pull on it. The plug should pull out. Repeat and eventually the tube will pop out.

~4.5" bolt, 2 nuts, 2 washers, and optional scrap of rubber tubing.

This worked for me, just a short threaded 3/4"x 2" PVC nipple with an end cap.

I threaded it slightly into the spark tube and with a bit of wiggling out they came without removing the spark plugs first.

So with the # 5 process does the washer fit the groove that the O-ring is in or does it try and catch the very back of the tube it self.? Thanks

Thanks jvfante..I will also try that process,.Maybe I was tightening the boat plug to tight but not sure how that would result in it always pulling out. Thanks !

I've used all three. In order of effectiveness:
3/4" pipe with 3/4" handle
Lag bolt and washers
Boat plug

I just did mine using a 5” bolt, two washers and two nuts. I used one of the washers at the end to tug on (similar to what many here have done). They popped right out and the new tubes and o rings fit a little more snug.

Of note, all of my coil packs and tubes looked great, but I put new ones in anyway bc I don’t want to go back in there for a long time. Fitting my torque wrench for the spark plugs was challenging in some areas. Removing the engine cover helped a lot on the passenger side.

Thanks for joining the form and participating in the discussion. It’s great to get new members so that this form doesn’t continue to slowly die.

The spark plug two are needed because The boxer engine design doesn’t have a conventional valve cover / gasket. Because of that, the spark plugs tube and O-rings are needed to isolate the spark plugs.

I got a good sleep after having read the 16 responses/inquiries before yours... that answered your very question.
