Clutch Spring Question

Hello, I have a '98 Boxster and the clutch pedal has always made a creaking sound when you depress it. I assumed it was the clutch spring as they have been known to make noises. Well, I just removed my clutch spring and it still makes the creaking noise (but I can't tell exactly where it is coming from).
  1. Does anyone know the next place I should look for the creaking noise coming from the clutch pedal?
  2. I bought a replacement clutch spring but it is the new design with the "captive pin" (see the picture). Can I use this with my current clutch pedal or is there an upgraded bracket? I believe this may have been redesigned over time.

I have the same creaky screen door type sound when pushing in the clutch with the car off. The noise is coming from the pivot fork or clutch slave cylinder on my car (something done there). I decided not to mess with it until I change the clutch.

Clutch Spring

I have 2003 Boxster-S (52K miles) where clutch padel is not as smooth as before. I am suspecting the clutch assist spring as well.

Elav: How long it took you to take out the old spring and what the best place to buy the spring assist assembly.

I had a creaky clutch pedal. I sprayed WD40 up where the rod and pedal lever meet and the sound went away. I think it took awhile though...

I just messaged Jay2015 that I have the part available from a 2001 base model. It looks like the part number is different from the S model. Does anyone know the difference/compatibility?

I also found this 'How to' that may be helpful to add to this thread: https://www.boxa.net/topic/59705-how-to-986-clutch-assist-spring-replacement/

Have you driven the car since the spring came out? I took mine out and fell in love with the clutch action/feel after. Heavy, but satisfying and easy to modulate.

As for the spring itself, it's an assembly with one moving part, I feel like dousing it with a liberal amount of lithium grease where the spring perches and where the pin slides shoud fix the squeak just as well if not better than a replacement. If it doesn't, then the noise is probably coming from the pedal's actual pivot point, and the spring only makes it louder because it introduces side-load on the pin, instead of being the actual source of the squeak.

And lastly, seeing as I permanently removed mine, I have a '98 spring assembly sitting around in my garage, that could probably use a new home.
