Driver Door Panel door handle cable problem

Hi All,

Car: 2001 Boxster S with 164000 miles.

Problem: The driver side door only opens from the inside and the outside door handle does not open the door.

Investigation: I am investigating the problem and had to remove the door panel. However, unlike 101 Boxster Projects or Pelican's tutorials or various Youtube videos, my door handle cable is different and does not come off. The attached image has it circled in yellow. So the panel comes off but is held to the door with the cable as seen in the photo. I am keeping it on a stool while trying to get access to the door handle mechanism but it is quite difficult with the panel in the way.

1) Does anyone have any possible advice on this issue ?

2) Does anyone off the top of their head know the exact problem that I need to fix ? I am assuming the door handle is just bad now and needs replacement or there is a spring there that needs replacement.

Please advise. Thank you in advance.

Spread the white clip apart to release it, then slide it to remove it. Shown in this video set to about 2 minutes 30 seconds into the video:

At around the 8:00 mark of that video there's some info that you might want about the outer latch.

Here's the pics from that.
