I had a atroke 4 yrs ago and cannot use my left hand or arm.i have smelled rubber burning after a drive lately. Recent water pump replacement.I am a competent car tech and would likd to pull the wngine cover and look before going to a shop.I already have an extra belt if needed but honestly can I do most of this with one hand? Maybe not the belt but at least the diagnosis. I manage detailing and such pretty well.

Depends upon how capable you are with that one hand. You might be able to do it, but if you had a helper, you could definitely pull it off.

Pulling the engine cover off wont be too hard, but i think that lining it back up to get those first few bolts in might be a challenge. If its just a timing belt you could probably do it one handed, just torque the tensioner down and hold it with your leg while removing/replacing the belt. A helper would be ideal though.

That sucks about the stroke. Life is a cruel mistress. At lest youre still able to drive though.

Timing belt can give a smell ? I was thinking serpentine belt.

Does anyone on the forum that lives near Marietta, GA (15 miles north) or the Atlanta area that could help a member to replace the serpentine belt? Woodstock it's about 30
miles north of the Atlanta..

I can't get the new belt on for the life of me.

Removed old belt 4++ years old... shiny on the flat side. Went to install the new belt and it is missing the final pulley... next to the tensioner pulley. Tried for an hour.

Then decided to 'stretch' the belt by hanging from it a full 5 gallin bucket o' water... overnight... didn't move at all. Tried again yesterday morning. Zero.

I'll visit a mechanic this week and pay to have it installed unless anyone knows of a trick/tip.

But unfortunately, GA it's kind of far from SoCal.. hopefully someone that lives closer sees this message

PS: Regarding you new belt.. did you measure next to the old belt? There is a possibility that the new one is not the same length

Done the belt at least 6 times on various Box's without encountering the issue you're experiencing.

It sure sounds like you don't have the correct belt. Only other thing is your tensioner pulley isn't being moved far enough. Have you put the old back on? If it fits, its gotta be the wrong size on the new one.

Agreed, either you're not engaging the tensioner properly or you have the wrong belt

I'm in south central KY but ATL is an 8nhr drive

I/m sure the old belt has strtched a bit over the years.

The tensioner pulley I don't want to break... I 'tension it so that it actually is touching the pulley next to it.

I ordered it from Pelican... so I'll reach out to them.

There are 2 different belts, one for cars with A/C and another without A/C.

It's the AC belt. Ughhhhh.

It's not earth shattering. The old belt is back on... working fine... but preventative maintenance calls for it.
