While possible to pop the ball sockets off with long screwdriver or provided tool I found the risk of damage to paint etc unacceptable. This might be something you'd have to do while away from home with only the tools in the kit available.

What worked with only a minimal amount of contortions was to use a ratchet, short extension and I think IIRC an 19 mm socket. Now reach in below the rollbar and get behind the skirt of the top to access the bolt which hold the boomerang to the transmissions. Remove bolts both sides and you can then manipulate the top and clamshell removing pushrods as necessary to operate the top as desired.
