More top troubles
I decided to skip repairs for the time being to my top. Trying to convert the top to manual. Currently the top is shut. What is the secret for getting the tool down to release the push rods. I cannot get them to budge. What am i missing?
Too many top down driving days left and I would like to take advantage of them. Any assistance will be much appreciated. Thanks, Fred in North Florida |

Had same problem years ago. Wish I could remember exactly what I used but it was a matter of finding the right tools to get leverage. The Porsche tool was no help. I think I used a long screwdriver or pry bar.
I fought it and couldn't believe it when each side finally popped loose. I conclusion, it is possible. Just no idea how I did it other than staying after it. |
While possible to pop the ball sockets off with long screwdriver or provided tool I found the risk of damage to paint etc unacceptable. This might be something you'd have to do while away from home with only the tools in the kit available.
What worked with only a minimal amount of contortions was to use a ratchet, short extension and I think IIRC an 19 mm socket. Now reach in below the rollbar and get behind the skirt of the top to access the bolt which hold the boomerang to the transmissions. Remove bolts both sides and you can then manipulate the top and clamshell removing pushrods as necessary to operate the top as desired. |
