I'm down-grading from a poorly installed cheap 2-DIN unit back to a stock CDR-220 like what would have been on my 2001 S originally. I already have a working CDR-220 from another friendly forum member, and a replacement center dash trim since the old one was damaged, but there are a couple of things I'm still unclear on:
1. Does anyone have any leads on a stock radio harness? The power & misc connector is still there, but the PO cut out the speaker connector. (And/or the amp connector; looks like there might have been an amp at some point.) I can cobble together a custom speaker connector with 0.11" quick connect tabs & some epoxy, but a stock connector would be way quicker.
2. I ordered a used center dash part, looks like 996 552 980 18 from the Porsche catalog, but it doesn't look like it has much "meat" to hold onto the radio. I guess I need the metal insert as well? I found PN 993 645 173 00 that looks like the attached image, but the Porsche catalog just has "retaining bar" listed for the 98-and-on years, 996 552 653 01, which looks flimsy. Is the first one correct for a 2001? Does anything support the radio at the back (towards front of car)?
3. How about a terminal/pin extractor tool for this? It looks like there's a general Boxster electrical terminal extractor that doesn't have anything for the pins in the stock radio harness.
Thanks.
