Just finished the first mowe of the year. spent the last two weeks on the road moving medical equipment supplies from central Ohio down to Midway, Florida. Do I think this thing is way overblown, Yes. But I also do believe that it has to be taken serious and steps need to be taken to protect the health of the elderly and young. But tanking the economy is not the way. Not sure if having half the US locked up at home is the answer but with all the Internet experts, what really is the right things to do. I think PRESIDENT TRUMP is doing the best he can with the cards he's been delt. IF everyone of our representatives was more worried of dealing with this instead of what they can get ( money, prestige, poke the president in the eye, etc) we would be farther along than we are.

Resident Rump disbanded the epidemic response team that was put together during the Ebola crisis even though he was warned by the outgoing administration specifically about potential pandemics and has spent the first two months of this crisis calling this whole thing hoax. Between calling it a hoax for 2 months and the brain drain we suffered for the team he disbanded, we are in far worse shape than we would have been.
What exactly has he done to make you think he's doing a good job?

I did not join this forum to read about politics. There are two topics I NEVER discuss; religion and politics. Why? Because there are always opposing positions that usually lead to ugly arguments. Lets get away from politics, do what you can to stay safe and keep on "Boxstering!"
With that said, I continue to get the CEL code referencing low fuel tank pressure. I replaced my fuel tank pressure sensor and the fuel sending unit. Is replacing the gas cap next? HELP. I hate the orange light in the face.
Thanks,
Fred in Florida

Because there are no opposing opinions when discussing oil, tires, IMS bearing, etc.
But I get it. you're right. This actually belonged in the off-topic discussions section. But now it's here and the subject matter itself is inextricable from the politics of the time, becasue the politics of the time control the subject matter.

I am 72. Spent 16 months in Marines in Vietnam (4/68-8/69)
I have been near death 3 times:
Amebic Dysentery (was passing blood), blood poisoning (it had my whole right arm) in Vietnam, then sepsis (104.6 fever) from a biopsy a few years back - all from billions of things you can't see.
As an old male with Type A blood I am at a higher risk than most of you, but I feel the odds are very much in my favor if I listen to doctors and not to an Orange Moron.
I listen to Gov Cuomo's updates, and while I was not a fan of his, I find I am very impressed by his leadership.
It is night and day from the WH clown show where they stand shoulder-to-shoulder as they tell us to keep social distance, slathering praise on a moron and giving vague promises, as they have for weeks, of what they will deliver in the future.
I get out and walk a couple miles, haven't been to a store in over a week and half, and luckily have some immediate neighbors who aren't cultists, so we can talk (at six feet apart) and keep our sanity, since we all have family members lost to the cult, but none to the disease - yet.
I have been reading - a LOT - did you know the twine used to tie hay bales was made of Manila fiber from the Philippines and sisal fiber from Mexico (in the early 1900s at least, don't know about now) because they found crickets and grasshoppers wouldn't eat the twine made of those things....and in 1919 Chicago made enough of that twine to go around the earth 1,600 times.... my mind is nearly full....

Thank you for your combat service.

An excellent really outstanding presentation of the facts
regarding COVID-19 from one of South Korea's top doctors.
Bottomline.. this ain't over by a long shot.

and for those who like to read what the doctors are discussing about the pandemic below is a great continuing education resource from Harvard Medical School.

Also interesting was the differences in perspective and the cultural differences in US/Europe and Korea and hearing it from another point of view. In the future, when there are enough n95 masks for all the medical professionals I will definitely be ordering some to have in case there is a next time. 30 minutes of good content in that interview!

I agree that Maytag's reply was one of his better ones. I also have to agree that both sides are way off base in their "opinions". As of March 25th there have been a total of 22,030 deaths world wide from the COVID-19 virus (1,046 in the US) compared to 291,000 deaths from the flu world wide (2019 data). I don't think COVID-19 has a chance of catching up to the influenza death rate or at least I certainly hope not. Now, that's not to say this thing is not nasty. It is and it's unpredictable as to the extent of damage it can cause in an individual. We still need to be very very careful.
Now, on to the important stuff. I cracked my window this winter so I've been driving around with the old duck tape (love that stuff) fix. As spring arrives I need to get it into a shop for a replacement. Not too shabby for a 20 year old piece of plastic though!

There were between 38,000,000 and 42,000,000 cases of the flu, and between 23,000 and 59,000 deaths in the US alone.
https://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/burden/preliminary-in-season-estimates.htm
That's a death rate between 0.06% and 0.14%
Conversely, there are currently 68,440 cases of COVID-19 and 994 deaths in the US. (this is already out of date, but it's good enough for this conversation and it doesn't change the death rate.)
https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/cases-updates/cases-in-us.html
That's a death rate of 1.45% These are not estimates, these are real numbers. That's over 10 times the worst-case death rate estimate of the flu.
Imagine now if we allowed COVID-19 to infect the same amount of people that got the flu. At 1.45%, that would be between 551,000 to 609,000 dead people in the US alone.
This is why some of us take it seriously.

Piper, I would spend some time looking things up and linking them here, BUT you will disregard it, call the president names, and be rather insulting. So, I won't waste my time, and since I have no regard for your opinion or political hatchet job, I'll just save my energy responding to other forum member whose opinion I respect.

I call Rump names because he calls people names every day. Worse, he lies every day and people are dying as a direct result. And I've shown examples of it.
I respect facts. Show me facts and I'll respond accordingly. I don't think you have anything to show, otherwise you wouldn't have wasted time typing your non-response reply. And if you have to take time to look up what he's done to mitigate this problem, that says a lot.

I am a Canadian. Although I did not vote for Prime Minister Trudeau I feel that he is handling the Covid-19 in an informed and measured manner. Time will tell if our response was timely and drastic enough. Trudeau addresses the nation every morning with a calming, non political, truthful and articulate update to the crisis. By contrast, Trump's daily ramblings are full of untruths and complaints about how poorly he is being treated, attacks on the press and how the previous administration left him in this mess. Trump rarely completes a sentence and rambles with the vocabulary of preschooler. I am at a complete loss as to how anyone can have any confidence in him as a leader. Canadian news outlets report the same story with very little if any political bias- not true in the US where two different networks can report the same event in a completely different way. I am glad that I live in Canada where we pay higher taxes, have free healthcare and don't need guns.

+1 I'm Canadian as well. I found it interesting that Trump wants to put the US soldiers at the Canadian border. Is that to prevent migrants from Canada getting to the US or to hem in his own people from coming here. Makes ya go hmmmm.

I really enjoy hearing from people who live outside the USA. There are liberals and conservatives everywhere. But, their take on our approach is always refreshing. Thanks pilut2 for your insights.
I don't care which flavor kool-aid you drink. Red, blue or purple. +/- a month ago, our president exclaimed we only had "15 cases that week and that the next week we would likely be at zero." We now stand at somewhere north of 1,000 dead. Last week the president extols hydroxy-chorluquine as a cure. Rips a reporter in the room that he should be ashamed of the question he is trying to ask as fear mongering. A Darwin awards candidate and his wife ingest some aquarium cleaner that has it as an ingredient and he dies and she is in critical condition.
People in authority over us have a responsibility to be honest and forth rite with all information presented. How many times has the president made a statement to then be corrected by Dr Fauci in the last week? It is staggering how cavalier he is with his hyperbolic ramblings. "Anybody who wants to get tested, can get tested." This is clearly not the case from personal experience.
The president can have his conspiracy theories about the deep state. Bill and Hill's child porn ring in a PA pizza restaurant basement, the last president was born in Kenya, he won the majority vote, etc. I can't decide whether he believes what he says or not. Which makes me ask the question. Which would be worse? Is he delusional or is he deliberately pedaling falsehoods? Both scenarios are problematic.
All I know is the country deserves/requires better at this point. If we get this wrong, history will not be kind. Pray we don't lose our humanity towards each other as we hoard toilet paper.

C'mon, Dmitry? Civil? We are civil. We're not savages. Where are you hiding out when Daniel Andrew posts his spam?
Civil? We're a family here... like neighbors. Some play better than others... but we're here by choice. We only see you when you're trying to sell stuff. We're all doing fairly well self-moderating.
Nice try, however. Have a nice day. Be safe. Be well.
