Motor mount was shot
Glad I have seen how often these go bad. In the middle of some serious routine maintenance, and thought I would go ahead and replace the motor mount......was glad I did!!

They need replacing sooner if you do DEs. I replaced mine in my 08 CSS before Indy last summer. It was cracked.

Pretty common problem, glad you checked it.
If its a street car, don't be tempted to use the semi-solid replacement engine mount because there will be 10x more engine vibration. At idle, I could see the door mirrors vibrate.

on my 99 at 104k. I just push it with my finger and the bushing came out easily. I also replaced Four corner shocks with bilstein and the original are worn out also at 104k. Why is it this porsche parts don’t last that long compare to other brand car. Just wondering!

Well using one motor mount at the front of the engine is why it wears out quickly. Lot of load on what is a transmission mount in the 911s.
As for stuts, 104k is pretty good life

Probably should check the motor mount every oil change. You're under there anyhow, it only takes a minute.

On the flip side 996/997 use the same type of pair of mounts for their engine mount as the Boxster does for the gearbox. When it goes on a 911 and I see more internet reports of this than for Boxster it is more obvious as normally one goes more than the other and the exhaust drops on one side.

Yeah, if your car doesn’t have a new MM for sure and is still running the original, there is about a 99.9% chance it is shot. Mine fell out too. 55k at the time ‘02 S.

on a similar note - I had a serious grinding noise under my car on sharp turns with heavy throttle. Thought it was the diff or something. Replaced motor/tranny mounts and the noise went away. My mount was shot also
