Winterizing
It's almost time for some of us Northern Tier types to be thinking about winterizing our Boxsters. One thing that is often forgotten is topping off your blinker fluid before putting her away. That way, you won't be plagued with a faulty turn signal next spring. You're welcome.

Do you have to use Genuine Porsche fluid, or would off-brand do? And while you're in there, you might as well check out the back-up light solenoid.

Also it's a good time to ensure that the twin muffler bearings are well greased and turning smoothly.

Check to make sure both rear fog lights are working. If one is out, you can be f****d. There may be a recall for your particular year.

Don't forget to check your bonneville inflation tube and grease the gastranomical clutch bearing.Two things that are easily overlooked.

Not to be the grammar police again, but gastronomical should be capitalized. Mr. Gastronomy was the inventor of that bearing, which allowed for the first time the use of a hemispherical bearing in a dual-axis rotational plane. Pretty ingenious, really.
Don't know why, but reading about him always made me hungry. Haha.

Also make sure you retract your radio antenna and rotate your lug nuts.

That's what I do. My 99 still has the original top and it is as tight as a drum.

I keep it latched, but if you have any windshield dings, or a crack, loosen the top by opening the top latch. When it gets cold, the top will shrink and put additional pressure on the windshield which could cause it to crack. This happened on my MG. Small stone ding at the bottom of the windshield caused a 6 inch crack over the winter.

And if your coolant level is low, replenish it with some dehydrated water.

Here's the way I'm gonna winterize my Boxster: Drive it (as long as there's no snow or ice)
Driving it saves a lot of hassles and headaches and work.

I store my 1998 in my attached garage with it's convertable top fully up and locked in postion. It's a newly replaced top w/glass window, as of 2 years ago. I also add a few extra pounds of air pressure to the tires. During the winter months is Chicago....IF the weather cooperates (ie: no snow, ice or salt on the road) I will usually try to run it up and down the expressway, once during the winter, for about 50 miles.) Other than that, it stays covered in my garage.
