This Friday was the day I picked up my 2001 Boxster from NC. Tonight was the first time I took my wife out for a ride and dinner after church. When we came out of the restaurant, I was surprised to see another Boxster sitting next to mine. It was a very nice looking Boxster S.

I was kind of excited to get the picture to share with my brother. He has a 76 912E with a 3.6 SC Motor. It is stunning.



The owner came out and I told him that it was a great looking car. I explained I had just bought mine and we were out on our maiden voyage.

I kind of expected him to say:
You will enjoy the car.
Looks like a nice car.
We have a great time with these cars.
If you have any questions ....

Instead he asked what year it was. A very understandable question.

Which lead into these statements.

You sure that is the year?
Those are not the correct wheels.
(I am pretty sure they are the original base wheels.)
His wheels were the best ever put on a Boxster.
You have a glass rear window.
(The top was updated with glass.)
The black Boxster script is wrong. It might be a 99.
(The images I pulled up showed black script on 2001 Base Models.)
He told me that he has had several 2001 so he knows his Boxsters.

I suggested that he might be surprised. What a kill joy.

On the ride home my wife suggested that he was lacking in basic social skills.

This was a reflection of him alone.

Ignore these kinds of car people. They exist in some fashion in every car ownership whether its Porsche, Mercedes, Corvette, Bronco, etc...

I have met people like this in all walks of life and circumstance. Smile politely, wish them a good day, and move on. They are busy fighting a battle that has nothing to do with you or your car and unfortunately, they took out their pain on you.

So true, but I don't even listen to my family. When I was trading in my Lapis Blue 01S for my LE, the ONLY family member who didn't try to stop me was my sister-in-law. Ditto when I sold my Carmon Red CS to buy my siganl green CSS. Keep in mind my family is mom, brother, and sister since I'm single with no ex's or kids that I know of.

Bottom line: travel to the beat of your own drum and don't get all wound up by what others think. As thstone eloquently points out, the ones trying to bring you down are looking for company in their misery.

I have this theory about humanity; we are all somewhere on a continuum of "baggage", or "emotional health", or whatever you may want to call it. I bristle when we assign labels, like "he has a mental illness" or whatever. As if there's a line, like on a Tachometer, where the needle is either "mentally ill" or "mentally healthy". I don't think that's helpful to anyone. The truth is that we are all products of our life's experiences, mixed with our own chemical balance / imbalance, combined with some personality traits we brought into this world, from wherever we came from before this.

What am I getting at? I find the world to be much less aggravating to me if I can try to imagine what has combined to create a specific behavior in an individual. I assume they are a good person, who, just like me, really just wants to be heard, be relevant, be cared-about. But something (or a combination of things) has nurtured in this person a type of world-view that may sit just a bit off-kilter. AND, just perhaps, the reason it bugs me more than some others might also be an indication of the baggage that I'm carrying around myself.

What does this look like applied to the real world?
I'm what many new-agers call an "empath"; meaning I intuit feelings, emotions, from those I come into contact with. I'll tell you what, that's a GREAT skill to have as a salesman. But it is born of the need I had as a child to anticipate the behaviors and moods of my abusive parents.

So this guy who was such a debbie-downer to ya that day: what do you suppose may have created his need to be right about something so inane? I dunno, I wasn't there.... but frequently that comes from having had to always prove himself in life, in order to feel valuable.

You've definitely got some new gear on that old beauty!
I love the original taillights from the pre-2003 models, though. Glad to see them on there!
Very interesting how you have the amber trim on the clear-bottomed headlights. I haven't seen that before, but it looks great with your amber side-lights. Those headlights also look super clean and crisp, no fading/yellow color at all!
It's also neat how you have the new glass-back top. You have yourself a very unique Boxster!
Your car is in great cosmetic condition. It really shines, would love to see more photos! You're going to have a lot of fun.

Congratulations on your purchase it looks very nice, I have a 2001 2.7 Tiptronic and the Boxster badge on mine is ‘black’ and I’m the 2nd owner and the car is as it was when it rolled out of the showroom. Like everyone else has said just smile and nod at idiots that believe they’re ‘Eddy the Expert’, as long as you’re happy with your Boxster who cares what anyone else says or thinks.
