I think many (not all) of us would agree that the iconic body style of the 930 or 964 models are some of the best looking cars ever designed. Here's the question... If Porsche were to bring this exact body style back for a limited run and marry it with today's modern systems would you buy one?

			Honestly?
To me, that body-style is one of the big factors in me coming LATE to the Porsche Party. I detest that car. I think it's ugly, and it seems to represent the "German Camaro", in that it's the car everyone wanted.... a sign that the purchasers were sheep. Nobody seemed to care about it's function (lackluster), only it's form, and it's symbolism of conformity.
I once heard David E David refer to the '84 Corvette shape as a "half-used bar of Dial Soap"; I think this body-style is the "unused bar of Irish Spring". at BEST, it's a stretched beetle.

A better-looking body style would be the 550 or the 356. That's something I'd buy. But never the 930 / 964.

you asked.

I don't feel that the modern styling has deviated much from that, but yes. Yes I would.

To use those body styles, you wouldn't get the modern systems, such as the very wide tires, water cooling, effective climate control, and the much better power of the current cars.

Never really liked the looks of the 964. Always been a mid-style guy. Carrera/SC etc. Though the early long noses are still my fav's overall.

That’s my favorite body style so, yes. Give me 964 body style, power steering, and AC and I’m happy. I like fewer electrical components anyways but with modern day engine.

The 964's climate control is actually pretty good... if it's working correctly. The problem is that at this age, a lot of the required parts are inoperative. I had wondered why mine was so horrible but had attributed it to an old car. Replacing both evaporator blower motors (one was seized and the other on its way out), cleaning the mixing chamber sensors, and cleaning the evaporator made a huge difference. It's actually cold now. A small company outside Munich has rebuild kits for the servos (all 5 of them). I still need to rebuild my defrost servo. Mine actually gets cold inside now, with very good airflow.

Oh, and 964s have power steering.

Love that model... but I’m too cheap to spend $30-$40K on a good condition 964 that will only get driven on the weekends. Maybe one day.

I think Stroked had it right, Singer is creating these wonderful cars all day long with modern upgrades and beyond beautiful interiors. Certainly if Porsche wanted to, they could crank up their design and manufacturing machine to produce modern cars with this classic design for something more reasonable than $500k a pop. Think I'll start writing some of the execs at Porsche. If I get a response I'll post it.

If I win the Powerball !!!
If I had 3 wishes !!!
Really who could afford them, Oil guys, Bill Gates.
Trying to make them legal would be so cost prohibitive.

I guess Porsche could do a little retro designing like Ford/Mustang Chevy/Camaro and put back some styling elements from the past into the new stuff

If I had the money, probably wouldn't buy it, would buy the original and make it into some beast
So it could sit in my garage, next to my 986 under a cover waiting for when the temp = 75, humidity = 50%, sun shining

No new Porsche can deliver the feeling of an air cooled Porsche. 964, SC and Carrera cars were small, and tight inside. Both front fenders curved in to the headlights. No power steering. They were 800 lbs. lighter. Really, really bad A/C. Heater controls were levers between the seats. They weren't luxury cars. They were sports cars. Leather wrapped hvac vents were not an option. The 911 designs from last century are truly iconc. Today, they have the profile of a cockroach.
