The 964's climate control is actually pretty good... if it's working correctly. The problem is that at this age, a lot of the required parts are inoperative. I had wondered why mine was so horrible but had attributed it to an old car. Replacing both evaporator blower motors (one was seized and the other on its way out), cleaning the mixing chamber sensors, and cleaning the evaporator made a huge difference. It's actually cold now.
A small company outside Munich has rebuild kits for the servos (all 5 of them). I still need to rebuild my defrost servo. Mine actually gets cold inside now, with very good airflow.
Oh, and 964s have power steering.
