I literally have been searching this whole time. I must not have been using the right keywords, alldatadiy doesn't cover it, bentley doesn't, the $10 ebay CD with the pdf doesn't, finally found an ancient old thread on renn tech . org that had some details and was able to find a solution. Maybe somebody can not do what I did to my windshield :-)

I think embarrassment is why I haven't filed a claim with my insurance to fix it :,-)

I had a windshield break trying to remove the mounting pedestal. Maybe it was bad luck? Either way I try a different approach. I use channel locks to install the mirror back on but I i use one jaw on the back of the pedestal and one on the mirror. I use shop towels instead of tape to cushion the mirror and pedestal. I've only had to do it 2-3 times but it's worked for me

I like it, avoids the stress on the windshield.
