Do our cars have hovercraft technology?

Are there blowers under the mid-section of the 986? I had the AC on, and when I started the car, and drove down a gravel road, it was like being in a tornado.

The front radiator fans exhaust air (mostly) under the car. With the A/C on, both fans should be operating at high speed, and yes, it could look like a tornado on a dirt road.

They are the front cooling fans and when they come on you don't want to be on a dirt anything.

Worse would be AC on and tornado building then have the engine compartment blower kick on and suck the whole mess into the engine compartment.

One of the most annoying aspects of owning an Boxster. I rarely take her on dirt but when I do I can almost always say bye bye to my clean car just because of the lame front fan design. Ive thought a lot about installing a disconnect switch for the front fans so I can temporarily turn them off during the rare times I hit dirt (yes obviously the key is to always remember to turn them back on when you leave the dirt). Ive not researched how to do it yet (its on the list).

Dirt roads? I can just picture a bunch of guys in labcoats running around some German design room out of their gords because some American was taking a Boxster off-roading.

And then the American consultant, who happens to look and sound and dress exactly like Boss Hogg, says "Well now boys, over here ya'll have your aut-o-bahn. But back home in the good ol' US of A, we like to put a little bit of monster truck in everything we do. You know, we're a practical kind of folk. Sometimes a body just has to take him some hay bales 'cross yonder to the farm. Do ya'll boys figure we can make a switch for that hay bale carrier on the back to go up and down manual like?"

Even if you park next to a curb, the "gutter debris" gets blown around. Yesterday I parked the car in a construction area where there was sand all over the pavement. It created such a dust storm I couldn't get out of the car. Had to move to a different location and walk back.

I stop by car washes to hose off quite often in this car.
