Great news.
RCOG or whatever they are called now by any chance? My PSA is not detectable 5 years after an extended (35 days) visit to their Decatur site. |

One step closer the engine is going into the car today ! Wow I can't believe how close we are.

Color me jealous. We'll need a video for proof though:)

This is some uplifting news to hear!

I'm sitting here at the computer, it's raining cats and dogs and I'm pissed off that my car is not done yet ! But the reason for being pissed off is directed squarely at myself !!! Lets backtrack........engine is done and in the car. Aprox. a year ago when Jake and I talked about this project Jake and I went over a checklist of parts that would be needed. Being a friend Jake offered to allow me to shop for some parts to try and save myself some money. Seeing that he stands behind his engines he did not have to do this. One of the items I agreed to purchase was a GT3 throttle body. I searched around and came across one on Fleabay. I sent the link to Jake to make sure it was the correct part number and he agreed it was. Now this throttle body was advertised as " slightly used " but fully functional. I bought it. Now roll the clock forward one year and Jakes goes to fire up the engine. She fires right off as expected but no throttle response :( . Jake spent a few days diagnosing the problem and unfortunately found the issue.........the throttle body I had purchased was DEFECTIVE with an internal short or miswire ! As soon as the key was turned 5 volts backfed into the ECU and killed the driver for the drive by wire throttle body !!!!! So my seemingly " good buy " bit me hard ! Jake swapped throttle bodies ( twice ) and eventually installed a manual throttle body to prove out the failure. So yesterday my ECU was in the mail to a ECU guru to be repaired. Despite the setback Jake was able to keep the car running and even sent me a 7 second video of two throttle blips ( done manually ) and she sounds soooooooo sweet and mean :D Engine passed all mechanical tests with zero issues......no leaks......no noises other than that sweet exhaust note. So we're at least 3 weeks away as the ECU repair shop currently has a 2 week backlog. But we are very........very close !

Ready to be done with this one!! Won't be long now.
What can happen will happen, there was a reason that TB was cheap, and appeared brand new when we received it! Don't blame yourself, I am the one that let you do it! |
Bummer! Used parts and Ebay comes with it's risks.
You mention a video. Can you share? |

Wait on that video... The engine was running lean and wasn't optimum.. Lets get it perfect before we start letting the world see it :-)

You saw the engine apart in my clean room during the class you attended here. It was that beast with the huge bore that I would;t answer any questions about :-) The DME will learn, but we use different injectors and will have to tune it after it logs some break in miles. This thing revs so fast that I typically have to slow down the factory pedal mapping so the car is drivable in the rain! |

Congratulations on your recovery. Great to see you will be enjoying your car just like the old days.
My father is having a bone scan today related to prostate treatment. He had a partial prostectomy at 77. VERY tough surgery at that age, especially with his moderate dementia, but he's not the quitting type. I'm less than impressed with the way his care was handled by the physicians. Well as it turns out the part of the prostate that was left in to avoid urinary incontinence is likely malignant. A biopsy was not done before the surgery because PSA levels were low. But as it turns out this is partly due the BPH medicine which is known to throw off PSA test and give a false negative. Everyone should know this. And some urologists seem to be skeptical on doing biopsy on elderly men -- controversial. Without biopsy you really don't know if cancer is slow or fast moving. Now after his otherwise successful surgery for prostate enlargement, his PSA is rising very fast. The doctor is still not entirely convinced that it's even cancer but says prostate cancer often spreads to bones which must be addressed immediately, hence today's test. One thing I have learned through this is you must always stay on of your treatment by doing your own research and seeing both sides of arguments when it comes to monitoring and treatment. |

Hope the test results are positive and provide answers that allow your family to make the best decisions. |

As I keep following Jake until he finally was by himself and ask him to take me to the CLEAN room to see his 'personal projects' once inside it reminded me of something out of 'Lockheed Martin's sterile satellite assembly room'... |

But back to my car it is with great anticipation that I wait for that first test drive that I take with Jake. I know the car will be a little rough because it will not have a final tune when I pick it up. Jake and I have agreed to pick the car up in this condition so the car can learn as I put on some break in miles. At some point in time Jake and I will agree it's time to turn her back in. At that time dyno tuning and results will be recorded. I'll get the car back and drive some more miles and then she'll be turned in for the final time. That's when the Raby in house camshafts will be installed and final tuning/dyno results will be recorded. So this is going to play out over the next 2 - 4 months but it will be fun :D I can't wait for some top down driving on local mountain roads rowing up and down the gears and hearing " the beast " bark through that lovely exhaust ! |
