				Transmission Fluid

I am planning on changing the manual transmission fluid in my 03 S this weekend. I stopped by the local Porsche dealership to get some Porsche manual transmission fluid, but they said they don't sell that retail. They told me just to go pick up some Mobil 1 75/90 at any auto parts store and I would be fine. Is this the correct answer? Is there some other way to get Porsche Fluid?
Thanks!!

I purchased the OEM fluid from my local dealer as recently as Jan, 2015 with no problem. The OEM fluid is Porsche PN 999.917.546.00, so they should be selling it.
Too bad you're not local or I'd say drop by and pick up some of my stock.

$32 for 1 liter? Why does that seem insanely expensive? How many liters are needed in the 03 6 speed transmission?

You will need 3. Something like 2.8 or something like that. There is a DIY on here, just remember to do the filler plug before the drain... You have been warned.

If it is branded PORSCHE it is always expensive. Price out their coolant . .

PS, up here in the Great White North, the local dealer wants $48.00 a quart (946 ml). With the PCA 10% discount that is still $ 43.20

$32 is still a good price because I paid $42 per liter before from a local dealer.

I just called the local O'Reilly Auto parts and the Mobil1 75W-90 is $11.50 per quart!
Any reason we should get the Porsche one at more than twice the price?

I am thinking of changing the fluid too while the TX is out. Yes, I will remember to get the fill plug out first... |

Thanks. I've heard the name, but using Google search I get a Porsche dealership in Beaverton, Oregon.

Sunset Imports is in Beaverton Oregon. 10% over hard cost for Porsche parts if purchased from out of state. Don't walk into the parts counter though. You'll be freaked by their upcharge over retail for Pcar parts.

Yes it is worth it. All other gear oil will give you notchy and hard cold shifting. For as often as you have to change it it's worth the extra cost.

+1 If you do a search you'll find several posts where using non-Porsche OEM fluid caused problems.

To update this thread for UK owners.I have just purchased 3 x 1 litre bottles of transmission oil from the official dealer for my 6 speed 3.2S, part no. 999.917.546.00
 Price was £29.76 per litre.
Now to get on with the job, my car is a 2003 with 65K miles and no record of having been done before. Let's hope the plugs come out easily as I had a devil of the job with the brake bleed nipples.

Make sure you remove the fill plug BEFORE you remove the drain plug. Would be a problem if you drained the oil and couldn't refill it.
