Transmission Fluid
I am planning on changing the manual transmission fluid in my 03 S this weekend. I stopped by the local Porsche dealership to get some Porsche manual transmission fluid, but they said they don't sell that retail. They told me just to go pick up some Mobil 1 75/90 at any auto parts store and I would be fine. Is this the correct answer? Is there some other way to get Porsche Fluid?
Thanks!! |
That is the same answer I got from my closest dealer.

I purchased the OEM fluid from my local dealer as recently as Jan, 2015 with no problem. The OEM fluid is Porsche PN 999.917.546.00, so they should be selling it.
Too bad you're not local or I'd say drop by and pick up some of my stock. http://i1114.photobucket.com/albums/...psrjpw76ze.jpg |
Just did a quick check and its easily found online;
Porsche Porsche Boxster/986 1997-2004 Transmission oil 1 ltr. HYPOID GEBINDE FOR PORSCHE: 99991754600, 999 917 546 00 - READY TO SHIP - (ORMD-TRANS OIL 1LTR) |
|
$32 for 1 liter? Why does that seem insanely expensive? How many liters are needed in the 03 6 speed transmission?

PS, up here in the Great White North, the local dealer wants $48.00 a quart (946 ml). With the PCA 10% discount that is still $ 43.20 |
$32 is still a good price because I paid $42 per liter before from a local dealer.

I just called the local O'Reilly Auto parts and the Mobil1 75W-90 is $11.50 per quart!
Any reason we should get the Porsche one at more than twice the price? I am thinking of changing the fluid too while the TX is out. Yes, I will remember to get the fill plug out first...:) |

Sunset Imports is in Beaverton Oregon. 10% over hard cost for Porsche parts if purchased from out of state. Don't walk into the parts counter though. You'll be freaked by their upcharge over retail for Pcar parts.

To update this thread for UK owners.
I have just purchased 3 x 1 litre bottles of transmission oil from the official dealer for my 6 speed 3.2S, part no. 999.917.546.00 Price was £29.76 per litre. Now to get on with the job, my car is a 2003 with 65K miles and no record of having been done before. Let's hope the plugs come out easily as I had a devil of the job with the brake bleed nipples. |
