Another Faulty Coolant Expansion Tank

So now I have replaced the coolant overflow tank twice and the second tank is defective also. I am at my wits end now , so before I call Porsche to order one, I wanted to know where did the other Canadians on this site order their tank and what was your experience?

were both vac-filled and did you have the latest cap on both?

They were both vacuum filled the first tank had a leak near the overflow hose and the second one seems to come from the breather valve not quite sure as of yet.

I broke my (usual) cardinal rule and bought from the local dealer. Didn't want to do this job more than once. Normally I source parts from the US.

Actually I did have to pull it out twice, now that I think about it.

I bought a replacement level sensor so I wouldn't have to go back and replace that later, as that requires pulling the tank. Of course, the new sensor was faulty.

Bought my tank, cap, and sensor at the local dealer. No problems.

I called the local dealer and they want 404.00 for the tank another 101 for the pressure valve and 32 for the cap. That's 537 plus tax seems a little too much.

Yeah, well, that's the cost of admission. Or you can cheap out on the aftermarket part and do the job over and over until you finally get a good one, which will likely fail within a couple of years anyway.

Can-Ti may be good enough for the Honda, but certainly not for the Porsche. Definitely not for a coolant tank. Did the money you saved on the parts cover the additional time and aggravation?

I did get a full refund at least that's a positive spin on it. Yes it's been a pain to do the job twice I agree but I can't believe that we can't get OEM tanks cheaper than that. I am sure there is sources out there who have a good product.

What's this? When I replaced my tank all I did was the tank, the level sensor and the middle section of the oil filler tube... (Cap already replaced.)

But what about the cap? If your old cap was worn and could not hold the required pressure, perhaps air was still in the system and caused your issues. This commonly occurs when the old tank from factory is flushed and the revised cap is not installed, the plastic goes from hairline crack to spilling all of the coolant on the road. Risky.
You also run the risk of having one of those air pockets get hot and it crack the head. Milkshake time... all because of a little $20 piece of round plastic.

I bought mine through my indy (rombotis). Seems that the pressure valve was included but not the cap. Genuine Porsche although I did have to replace the o-rings a year later.

I did replace the cap because I knew it was an issue. The new tank is leaking from the bleeder valve. I changed the o rings and it seems ok now. I will test it out this weekend when I take it for a drive.
