My car
OK, got this info off my rear wheel. It says 9Jx17H2. So I am assuming the wheel width is 9"?
and this tire calculator says 245 would work fine on a 9" wheel.

Tyre Size for Rim Size/Width Calculator - What's the best tyre size for my rim?
I've been running 235/50x17 Pilot Alpins on the rear of my 03 Boxster for quite a few winters now. Narrower is better for snow tires, as I see it, and these are nearly an inch narrower than the stock 255s.

I've had 245s on my 9' width wheels. No problem.
