Winter tire question
Right now my rear tires are 255/40R17
Trying to find a true winter tire in that size seems impossible. So I was looking at going with 245/45R17 http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Dunlop&tireModel=Winter+Maxx&si dewall=Blackwall&partnum=445TR7WMAXXXL&tab=Sizes I'm not sure what my rear wheel width size is, but would you see this as an issue? Thanks! |
OK, got this info off my rear wheel. It says 9Jx17H2. So I am assuming the wheel width is 9"?
and this tire calculator says 245 would work fine on a 9" wheel. http://www.tyresizecalculator.com/tyre-wheel-calculators/tyre-size-for-rim-size-width-calculator |

I've had 245s on my 9' width wheels. No problem.

Order new rims with the tires. Problem solved.

245 is too wide for winters, manual recommends 225.

Got these tires installed on the Boxster this morning. It's supposed to snow here tomorrow, so I get to see how well they work. :)
