And to answer your question, the LSD is beneficial in traction challenged situations, such as snow. With both wheels getting power, there's less chance for getting stuck.
I would think for everyday use in the snow it would not be so good? Just remembering when I had a LSD in a truck in the snow. A simple corner especially with a trailer was a handful.

Maybe if I had the proper snow tires at the time
