Boy! I was just checking the forum and saw this. I had a '98 Z3 (pretty new at the time). It was very bullet-proof. Boston Green in colour. Get the straight 6 if you do. Then I bought a CPO '03 Z4 (black). Once again, bullet proof reliable. (look at my signature name). Then a few years later I drove my Uncle's '00 base boxster. Loved it. I ended up getting a '00S about 5.5 years ago and never looked back. The Z3's did hold their value better than I expected. They're based off of the E36, i.e. the dash and interior pieces etc. Whereas the Z4 is an E85 (it's own model) So having owned all three. I've got to say I'm a little biased towards the Boxster. Yes, they can be expensive to maintain. Do your homework. BMW's can be expensive also! The straight 6 that bmw puts in the z3 and z4 is one of the smoothest in the world, but nothing compares to the sound of that flat 6 at about 6000 rpms! I know I didn't answer your question as far as ergonomics, etc. Drive all three and then decide! That's what I did. It just took 9 years. Good luck!
