And inexpensive. Takes six months off the car.
That mod follows the high sped fan switch hack... and the engine cooling fan hack.

Next up...

Daytimne running lights hack... and the rear foglights hack.

I'm running out of hacks.

You clearly had a hack attack. I guess I need to do some more research.

OK, I give up - what is this hack all about? You say that it is -not- the fog light / DRL hack, right?

I've never heard of this before, and a search for it in the archives did not bring forth any hits.

Thanks - DM

That's the vid I watched. I spliced the wire into the looms instead of using a tap. Some fire on the wire... strip off a half-inch... splice in. The wire to the actual side markers is a simple splice. This is the page I used for my "install":
 https://web.archive.org/web/20060106060416/http:/wa4ekg.home.att.net/996mods/sidemarkermod.html
The DRL hack... the one with which I'll be running... simply jumps the two low beam headlight fuses. Key on... low beams automatically on. See #3 on this link:
 https://www.boxsterforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2711
The rear fog light hack... How to: 986 guide for enabling both rear fog light "hack" - How To - www.BoXa.net
Also... I did another mod... I was SOOOOOOOOOOO bored. I've only read of-seen one other person do the mod... and haven't been able to find the post. After I completed the "mod", lol... I installed a switch so that I could control when it was "on" and when it was "off". Mostly out of shame and embarrassment, lol. I won't admit what it is... but guesses are welcome..

Changed the oil today. Didn`t need to be changed, only had approx. 4900kms on the oil, but I received the magnetic oil drain plug that I order about 2 weeks ago last week and I`ve been dying to open up the oil filter to inspect. No steel shavings in the oil filter or in the oil  . I can sleep good this winter

I replaced spark plug tubes on the Black 2000. One had started leaking so bad that was dripping oil onto the exhaust.

..Then went for a nice drive to make sure there were no more leaks.

THis morning I attempted the DRL hack ( https://www.boxsterforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2711).

I prepared a "Y: wire stripped at each end, splicing a wire into the middle of another wire... very short wires. I attached the bottom of the Y wire to the bottom prong of #6 fuse. I then connected one of the top wires of the Y and connected it to the bottom prong of #9 fuse. I wanted to test the effort since each headlight has a fuse for the low beam. Turned on the ignition key not starting the car... no headlight. Called it a day.

My plan was... is?... to run the wire from fuse six then a wire to #s nine and 10.

Now... the mod is for a 996... and I don't know if there's a big difference.

Has anyone done this mod follows the instructions in the link? Can you share how you made it work?

Thanks!!

Finally got around to fixing my headlight plug that had the tab broken and kept working loose. Found a plug on ebay with wires already attached. Just had to solder and heat shrink them together. And now it is long enough to reach the headlight before installing if I ever have plug issues or to test.

I was actually really impressed with the el-cheapo chinese pistons. The lightest one was 1539 ish (sometimes the scale when zeroed out read 1540). The heaviest one was only 1542. 2 were 1540 and the other 2 were 1541. But a little grinding action and they all became 1540 (or close enough).

That is awsome!!
my '03 996 Cab came to me with a damaged (painted) passenger side bump guard. I was amazed how hard it was to source a nice used one that I could R/R. It's been 2+ years since purchase and still no luck.

I would have it repaired and painted but there is still an amazing backlog of work at decent body shops in our area since Hurricane Michael 2 years ago this week.

This might be the ticket!

It was a little easier than I thought it would be. Made a cardboard template and used a 24x24 sheet of acrylic. Did it all in 1 day. 🙂
