thanks. been tempted to do this too. was it an easy install? anyone done it and regret it? (because of the hassle of removing wires etc to get to engine)

Install was pretty darn easy -- the challenging parts were

1) getting the grill covers to fit in the box properly, required a bit more force than I'd have thought - one side fit perfectly, the other not quite.

2) fishing the wires through to the frunk.

It took me about 2 hours one night to install the speakers in the box, and about 3 hours the next day to install the box in the car & pull the wires.

As far as engine access, there's only one clip on the side of the box that needs to be removed to get to the engine, won't add more than a minute to the time it takes to remove the box.

Changed gear oil on my '01S at 46k miles. Lots of sparkly stardust in my drain pan. IMO Porsche's 60k interval is not sufficient. There is no magnet in the plug so all this metallic debris is circulating and accelerating wear. I checked Pelican - no magnetic drain plug. Does anyone make one?

Wow, never expected to see Lake o' the Pines on 986Forum. I used to come here as a kid - my family is from Diana.

Today I reconditioned the headlights on my 2000 Base Boxster. I used the Mothers powerball kit (with the sanding pads) and they came out great. I then washed and dried her.

Just starting her fall prep today. I took each wheel off and cleaned it inside and out and cleaned my newly painted calipers with paper towels and Qtips before replacing the wheels and torquing the lug bolts. My wife thinks I'm nuts. Tomorrow it's a full bath followed by 303 treatment on the roof and the first coat of wax.

Saw my wife dropping the top and drive away to run some errands with one of my kids. They love the car. Me? Watching the 9ers game!
So, braking the mold here? ;)

Put gas in for $4.49 a gallon. Then went to work...at least it is a fun commute. Open nothingness out in the Central CA grapevines.

Picked up my 986 today and I was in my own little world I absolutely loved it and can't wait to do it again.
There were a couple of hiccups though one at the petrol station not inserting the fuel pump in properly which means about half a liter of petrol spat out all over the car and my shoes I hope the smell goes soon and I stalled on the high way in peak hour traffic and took me about 45 seconds to restart lol.

Went to pet store and picked up 144 cans of cat food....life in the fast lane.

I told my dealer I have no faith in him and would like to get the replacement part for repair myself if possible. Then cause he pissed me off by promising to email me twice and then not following through twice, that I thought they had poor customer service. I told him I asked them to locate me a Spyder, no reply. They never even counter offered the 911 S still sitting on their lot with rusty rotors and too high a price. I said at this point I would pay to send my car back to the purchasing dealer if something catastrophic were to happen, so far no reply back.

I stalled mine several times in the first few months of owner ship this spring as well.

It does take time to restart due to having to ign off first.

Takes a bit of getting used to and after 4 months its starting to feel very good now.

The shifts are flying faster and smoother every week and mostly a few fingers is better than a fist full of knob. (That sounds wrong when I read it )

Also splashed some fuel one time as well.

Installing new front brake pads tomorrow and completing my brake fluid flush (Did not know about the 2nd bleed valve) and associated video to post on these forums.

I had the worse day imaginable

I've only had my 986 for two days and an Asian driver had to go and crash into me as I was minding my own business and driving peacefully in my lane.

He tried to enter my lane at about 50/km and didn't see me (blind spot he sais) he took out my right rear view mirror scratched my right door and put a nice dent on my right panel and dented the rim on my wheel.

I have to take it to a local repair shop here in Sydney I prey to god they do a good job I am absolutely gutted.

Ghostrider 310 10-06-2012 02:03 AM

Dear More, So sorry to hear that, you should have grabbed your neck and told him it hurt like crazy! just make sure the repair center finds all the damage, like a potential bent wheel. If you can, do your homework on where the best place to go is, in the states you get to choose, till then have a laugh.

Family Guy Asian Driver - YouTube

And to 987 owners asking about vent repair I will have the factory manual procedures Monday, will try to make a thread with pics.
